Kris Jenkins Celebrates Game-Winning Shot

Wow, I can’t believe former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kris Jenkins enrolled at Villanova University, joined the basketball team as a forward, and finished his senior year by hitting the game-winning shot in the National Championship Game. From blocking field goals and stuffing runs, to a magical run for college basketball’s biggest prize.

Anything really is possible!

Blue Edwards and the End of the Vancouver Losing Streak

  • blueedwards1995-96 was a rough year for the Vancouver Grizzlies–at 15-67, good for the worst record in the league, the Grizz were three games worse than the 18-64 76ers. Included in this season was an historic 23-game losing streak, which lasted from February 16 until April 3.
  • Had the streak gone to 24 games, it would have tied the NBA record for consecutive losses. Vancouver small forward Blue Edwards, however, willed his Grizzlies to their first win in nearly two months with his game-winning basket, as the Grizzlies topped the Timberwolves in dramatic fashion. ¬†With 8 seconds left, Edwards’ jumper put the Grizz up 105-103, which was followed by the game-winning stop at the other end.
  • The game-winner by Edwards capped the team’s best comeback of the season, which saw them erase a 12-point fourth quarter deficit with a 16-0 run. Bryant “Big Country” Reeves added a career-high 28 points.
  • Edwards, who, earlier that season, recorded the first triple-double in Grizzlies history, was one of the key players on this ill-fated Vancouver team. He started all 82 games, averaging 12.7 points. He was the third-leading scorer on the team, behind Reeves (13.3), and point guard Greg “G-Money” Anthony (14.0). He also kicked in 4.2 rebounds per game.
  • The great question here, is one of revisionist history–how long would the streak have gone, had Edwards missed the shot and the Grizzlies lost? They lost¬†seven of their final ten games that year, despite finishing on a two-game winning streak. One has to think, the way things were going, there’s an outside chance the Grizz could have lost 30 games in a row that year.
